Hot, Hot, Hot

It’s May, late Spring, but the weather is definitely summery. Or maybe as hot as I like it! According to my phone, it’s 22C, very pleasant for sitting out in but too hot for work. Ah well, in that case I will just sit here and ramble. Nothing new there.

One of the good things about retiring is the option to do stuff or, if the mood takes you, not do stuff. A new concept for me but I am getting used to it. So today, I continued working in the front garden, trying to clear some ground currently infested with Mares Tail. Some of will be seeded with grass but I am also planting an ornamental cherry tree.

Lunchtime came and went and now it is too hot to work so I sit here writing this and keeping an eye out on the bird feeders. These are some of the birds that visit regularly.

Goldfinch sat on top of the bird feeding station.

I love the Goldfinches that visit. They are one of the most colourful birds we see and always bring a smile to my face. They love Niger seeds but are also happy to peck around on the ground, picking up whatever they can find.

Greater Spotted Woodpecker

We have a whole family of Greater Spotted Woodpeckers. We have managed to identify two or three different birds. They love the peanut feeders and feed enthusiastically. Very often one bird will chase another off the feeder, fascinating to watch. Despite being very assertive birds, they are also very shy and will not come to the feeders if we are anywhere in the garden
